Lapis is associated with many ancient civilisations especially Ancient Egypt, Greece and Samaria.

It is believed to have been used in various forms, from being crushed to a fine powder to be used as makeup, to being recorded as being used in the death masks of the Ancient Egyptian rulers; it is recorded in the "Book of the Dead.

Lapis can resemble Sodalite especially if it is poor quality grade.
