Lammas
1st or 2nd August (this date used to be moveable depending on the weather and the maturity of the crops)
Lammas marks the beginning of the end of Summer and is considered as the first of the three Harvest Festivals in the Year of the Wheel, reminding us that we are heading back towards the dark of the year.
Lammas is the time when there was a change from sowing and planting of crops to harvesting them; a time to give thanks for the crops and to honour the sacrifice of the plants etc so that we may eat.
The feasting and celebrations at Lammas focus on the harvest and as such a time for giving thanks to the Goddess and the God for the bounty of the earth.
